✍️ About the Author: Ama Ata Aidoo


Professor Ama Ata Aidoo (1940–2023), born in Saltpond, Ghana, was a groundbreaking playwright, poet, novelist, academic, and policy advocate. She penned her first play, The Dilemma of a Ghost (1964), while still an undergraduate—marking the beginning of a prolific career that combined literary brilliance with political consciousness.
Her iconic works include Changes (1991), The Girl Who Can & Other Stories (1997), and the editorial African Love Stories Anthology (2006). Aidoo was also Ghana’s Minister of Education and the founder of the Mbaasem Foundation, which supports African women writers.
Having taught at the University of Cape Coast, Brown University, and other institutions, Aidoo’s legacy endures as a champion of African feminism, cultural sovereignty, and literary excellence.
