A. Igoni Barrett was born in 1979 in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and currently resides in Lagos. A celebrated voice in contemporary African literature, Barrett is the recipient of prestigious fellowships from the Chinua Achebe Center, the Norman Mailer Center, and the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center.
In 2005, he won the BBC World Service short story competition, gaining international acclaim for his sharp narrative voice and vivid storytelling. His short story collection Love is Power, Or Something Like That (2013) solidified his place in modern African literature. In 2014, he was named among the Africa39—a list of the most promising African writers under the age of 40.
