– About the Author: Charles Henry Robinson

Charles Henry Robinson (1861–1925) was a British linguist, scholar, and the first student of the Hausa Association. His influential work in the late 19th century helped lay the foundation for the study of Hausa language and culture in the English-speaking world. He spent time in Northern Nigeria between 1894 and 1895, where he immersed himself in Hausa communities to document and understand their language and customs.
Robinson authored several key publications on Hausa grammar and lexicon, including this widely circulated dictionary. His contributions are still recognized in African linguistic circles for their role in preserving and documenting one of the most spoken languages on the continent.
