- About the Author: Professor Dr. Jeffrey Haynes

Jeffrey Haynes is a globally respected scholar and Professor of Politics at London Metropolitan University, UK. With over 60 books and numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, his academic expertise spans religion and politics, globalisation, democracy, and development in the Global South.
This book represents a 40-year research journey that began with his 1988 PhD dissertation on Rawlings and Ghana’s development policy. It is informed by over 125 personal interviews with PNDC insiders, political actors, and observers conducted between 1985 and 2022. The result is a nuanced, evidence-based, and deeply informed political biography.
Haynes’ scholarly approach provides rare insight into the motivations, missteps, and milestones of Ghana’s revolutionary-to-democrat transition.
