- About the Author: Kwesi Yankah


Kwesi Yankah is a celebrated Ghanaian academic, cultural scholar, and public servant. He is the author of two award-winning books: Speaking for the Chief, which won the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences Gold Book Award, and The Proverb in the Context of Akan Rhetoric, based on his groundbreaking dissertation at Indiana University, USA.
Yankah has held prestigious fellowships at Stanford, Northwestern, Michigan, Berkeley, and Pennsylvania, and served as an Associate Director of the African Humanities Program. From 2017 to 2021, he was Ghana's Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education.
A fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, Kwesi Yankah’s legacy spans academia, governance, folklore, and literature—making him one of Ghana’s most respected voices and thinkers.
