Watermelon Kaolack is a popular open-pollinated watermelon variety (OPV) celebrated for its early maturity, sweet red flesh, and disease resistance. Widely cultivated across West Africa, including Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal, it adapts well to tropical and subtropical climates, producing high-quality, marketable fruits.
This variety matures in 70–90 days, producing fruits weighing 5–6 kg, with moderate resistance to Fusarium wilt and Anthracnose. Kaolack is ideal for fresh consumption, juicing, and commercial farming, and its open-pollinated seeds allow farmers to save seeds for subsequent planting cycles.
